And the critics say…

The 28th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards were held last night and leading the pack of film nominations was everyone’s favorite this awards season, Everything Everywhere All At Once with 14 nominations. Coming in second behind that film was Steven Spielberg‘s semi-autobiographical drama, The Fabelmans which earned 11 nominations. The Critics’ Choice Association also gave out awards for the Television nominations, and leading the pack for series TV was ABC‘s mocumentary comedy Abbott Elementary with six nominations, while the AMC drama Better Call Saul and it’s final season followed behind with five nominations.

The Winner is…

By the end of the night, Everything Everywhere All At Once was still everyone’s favorite winning the top honors of the night with Best Picture, as well as Best Supporting Actor being awarded to Ke Huy Quan. The duo directors also took home Best Director awarded to directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, and they also won Best Original Screenplay, and the film won Best Editing. While it was the 0final countdown for Better Call Saul as they swept the television awards winning the top honor for Best Drama Series, as well as Bob Odenkirk picking up a win for Best Actor in a Drama Series, and Giancarlo Esposito took home the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Abbott Elementary and The Dropout also did well in the television awards, winning two apiece.

Hosted By….

The 28th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards were hosted by Chelsea Handler and aired on The CW. They come one week fresh from the Golden Globe Awards and weeks away from the Screen Actors Guild Awards and Oscar voting opening. The Critics’ Choice have never been a hard indicator as to who would win either awards, but the voting body does get to see the speeches of the winners and may be swayed by what they have to say in gratitude for the win. So leading into the biggest show of the awards season, the Academy Awards, it makes sense to want to weigh the nominees and wins against the other film association awards shows and hope you have an idea of who is winning it big on Oscar night!
