The nominations for the 2024 Emmy Awards have been revealed, Shōgun leads the pack with 25 nominations for the FX series, including Outstanding Drama Series, and setting several nomination records in the process. Also among the top nominations unveiled Wednesday morning were, FX’s The Bear, with 23 nominations, setting a new record for nominations in a single year in the Comedy series category, the series is joined on the list with Hulu‘s Only Murders in the Building, which recieved 21 nominations, HBO/Max’s True Detective: Night Country, with 19 nominations, and Netflix’s The Crown, which garnered a royal 18 nominations. Actors earning nominations included Shōgun stars Anna Sawai, and Hiroyuki Sanada, and The Bear stars Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri. There were however, some notable names and series left off of the nominations list this year. Notable snubs included everyone on HBO/Max‘s The Sympathizer other than reigning Oscar winner Robert Downey Jr., who recieved the lone nomination for the series in the category of Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Anthology Series or Movie for playing nearly all of the show’s prominent white characters. Everyone on the Showtime series The Curse was also left off the list of 2024 nominations, meaning another reigning Oscar winner wasn’t as lucky as RDJ, as Emma Stone wasn’t nominated for her performance in the series. While his return as Mr. Monk in the reunion movie Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie was nominated in the Outstanding Television Movie category, Tony Shalhoub was left off the list of nominations for his return to the character who garnered him three Emmy wins. And with recent changes to the talk-show and sketch-comedy categories meaning that a maximum of four series could be nominated for what’s now called Outstanding Talk Series, John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in L.A. was completely shutout of being nominated.
