The Making of Patch Adams, Part 1…

Patch Adams was released on a Collector’s Edition DVD on June 22, 1999, included on it as a special feature of making the purchase, a behind-the-scenes interview from the making of Patch Adams included in the DVD release that featured director Tom Shadyac, one of the film’s producers Mike Farrell, Dr. Hunter Doherty “Patch” Adams, and the late Robin Williams. Patch discusses his journey as a doctor and a subsequent book he wrote about it, after the book became popular and he was being approached about selling the rights for a film production, Adams went to a friend in the business, Farrell, most famous for the series M*A*S*H, who explains for the interview the conversation the two of them had about turning his life into a movie. In the interview, the late Robin Williams discusses what it was like to play the real-life clown doctor, and the similarites they had as actor, and physician. Williams discusses how Adams was very much involved in his process of becoming Patch Adams for the 1998 film.
