The Gilded Season…

The 29th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were held yesterday for the 2023 Film and Television seasons, and the big winners of the night were Everything Everywhere All At Once and The White Lotus during the actors’ award ceremony. This year’s ceremony was broadcast live from Netflix‘s YouTube Channel ending their long time run on the TBS and TNT networks, the awards, called Actors, were given to the nominees that were most impressed in movies and TV series this past year. Considered the bellwether in predicting an Academy Awards win, the awards which took place the day before the Oscar voting season opened, often are indicator of who will be nominated and win in the acting categories and can also be a close predictor of the biggest award of the night, Best Picture. Everything Everywhere All At Once took home four of its five nominations and it’s indicated the film will be dominating at the Oscars this year, winning the highest honor of the night, Best Ensemble.

On the TV side of the awards, The White Lotus picked up an award for Best Dram Series Ensemble and an award for Jennifer Coolidge. The rest of the TV series awards were spread out among the dramas and comedies nominated with some of the wins being for Abbott Elementary, Ozark, and Hacks. The voting body for the awards consist of 120,000 or so members of SAG-AFTRA. The SAG Awards also payed tribute to Sally Field‘s career in film with the Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award.
