Golden Night of Glory…
The 82nd Golden Globe Awards were held on Sunday night with alot of people having a golden night of glory to start their 2025.
Emilia Pérez cleaned up at the Golden Globes with wins for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Non-English Language Film, while Zoe Saldaña was named the Best Supporting Actress for her performance. The film’s song also took home the Golden Globe for “El Mal”, which won Best Original Song.
Meanwhile on the otherside of film genre categories, The Brutalist won the Golden Globes for Best Motion Picture – Drama, Brady Corbet was named Best Director, while the star of the film Adrien Brody won the Golden Globe for Best Male Actor – Motion Picture – Drama.
Wicked won the Golden Globe for the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, while Ali Wong took home the Golden Globe for Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television.
On the television side of the ceremony, Shōgun cleaned up at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, with wins for Best Television Series – Drama, while stars of the series Anna Sawai, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Tadanobu Asano winning for their performances in the series.
On the otherside of the television genre categories, Hacks was named Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy, while star Jean Smart took home the Golden Globe for her performance in the HBO/Max series. Baby Reindeer won for Best Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture Made for Television, with star Jessica Gunning winning the Golden Globe for her performance in the Netflix limited series.
In the technical film categories, Peter Straughan won Best Screenplay – Motion Picture for Conclave, while Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross won Best Original Score for Challengers.
Fernanda Torres, Kieran Culkin, Jeremy Allen White, Colin Farrell, Sebastian Stan, Demi Moore and Jodie Foster also were among the Golden Globe winners on Sunday night.
Nikki Glaser hosted the Golden Globes ceremony, that televised awards in 27 categories across film and TV handed out for the year of 2024.
For the first time this year the Golden Globes held the Golden Globes’ inaugural Golden Gala, where the previously televised Cecil B. DeMille Award and the Carol Burnett Award were presented to Viola Davis and Ted Danson on the Friday Night before the 82nd Golden Globe Awards.
Those two awards have previously been presented during the live broadcast but this year were presented in a special ceremony attended by stars including Jane Fonda, Meryl Streep, Mary Steenburgen, Carol Burnett, Anthony Anderson and Babyface.
The 2025 show was the second consecutive Golden Globes to air on CBS after the Globes inked a five-year deal with the network. This was also the second Golden Globes since its longtime sponsor, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, was replaced following the aquistions of all the HFPA‘s assets, rights and properties by Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge. Dick Clark Productions now owns and produces the Golden Globe Awards. The nominees are now selected by a racially and ethically diverse group of voters, made up of journalists representing countries from around the world.
The 82nd Golden Globes aired live from The Beverly Hilton on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ on January 5th, 2025, Emmy-winning producers Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner served as showrunners, for the second year in a row.
