The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences held the Oscars ceremony for the 2022 film year Sunday night at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, and it was the 95th year for the awards that were titled, “Oscars95” in honor of the achievement. To no one’s surprise, Everything Everywhere All At Once was the film to beat and swept most of the major categories, the A24 frontrunner film directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert won Best Picture and Director. The films star, Michelle Yeoh, also won the Oscar for Best Actress, becoming the first Asian actress to ever win the award.
The biggest winner of the night was undoubtedly A24, Best Actor went to first time winner, Brendan Fraser for his role in The Whale, the studio was also behind that Oscar nominated film. Early in the night we saw victories for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio for Best Animated Feature Film, as well as Yeoh’s co-stars in Everything Everywhere All At Once, Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis, the first time winners took home the Oscars for Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress. And Navalny took home the Oscar early for Best Documentary Feature and the award was received by the still wrongfully imprisoned Putin political opponent’s wife accepted the Oscar on behalf of the political injustice and fighters of an oppressive Russian regime that go on in the name of her husband and fair political future for the nation. And costume designer Ruth E. Carter set new records for the Oscars early in the night by becoming the first Black woman to have won two Oscars, having won a second for her work on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, she won her first Oscar for the first Black Panther film.
