American Crime Story is a true crime anthology series developed by developed by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, who are also executive producers, alongside Brad FalchukNina JacobsonRyan Murphy, and Brad Simpson. The series is the second installment in the American Story media franchise, following American Horror Story. Each season is presented as a self-contained miniseries and is independent of the events in other seasons. The series is broadcast on FX.

The first season, subtitled The People v. O. J. Simpson, chronicled the murder trial of O. J. Simpson, as well as the combination of prosecution confidence, defense witnesses, and the Los Angeles Police Department‘s history with African-American people. The first season was based on the book The Run of His Life: The People v. O. J. Simpson by Jeffrey Toobin. It premiered on February 2, 2016.

The People v. O. J. Simpson received critical acclaim for its directing, writing, and casting (particularly Paulson, Vance and Brown). Among its awards, the season won eight Emmy Awards at the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards at the 74th Golden Globe Awards, and four Critics’ Choice Television Awards. Paulson won six awards, including a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Female Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series at the 23rd Screen Actors Guild Awards for her portrayal of Marcia Clark.
