The Sum Of All Talking..

This is a promotional interview compilation for the film in 2002. It includes an interview with Ben Affleck on the set of The Sum of All Fears along with Morgan Freeman and Bridget Moynahan on a press tour for their interviews. The compilation also includes scenes from the film in between the cast interviews. The compilation starts with a scene from the film that includes all three actors in the interviews, the first being from Ben Affleck, who discusses that while filming the Jack Ryan film on the first day, he was told by many on set that Tom Clancy has many different sources within the C.I.A. and intelligence community to provide him the material he then writes about in the Ryanverse.

Adaption Captions..

Morgan Freeman is the next interview and he discusses the book connection and how that is what drew him to take the part of William Cabot in the film. He states that he had read “The Hunt For Red October” and then went to the movies to see how well they did with adapting the book. In his opinion, they didn’t do too badly with that one. Then he said he read “Patriot Games” and then he went to see the movie. Not too bad, he said. At which point a pivotal scene from the film of the same name with Harrison Ford is played for viewers.

Fully Developed Idea..

The Compilation then goes into Bridget Moynahan‘s interview where she discusses the character development of adapting a Tom Clancy book that has become a film franchise. She discusses how much growth is already there as she is coming into this film and the part she is playing and that the relationships in the film, like that of her character Dr. Cathy Mueller and Jack Ryan, who eventually marry, have already developed and evolved prior to her playing the part.

Bad Angles..

Then a scene plays of our main antagonist Richard Dressler and his call to arms speech scene over the U.S. President played by James Cromwell and The Russian President played by Ciarán Hinds meeting laying out the plot of the film. Another scene with Liev Schreiber who plays John Clark is played while Morgan Freeman returns and discusses the central topic of the film and book being if Russia was to think they were under attack, who would they think is attacking them? And for what reason, and if someone told them the Americans launched a nuclear weapon, you don’t ask why first. You start off by defending yourself and ask why later. Another scene from the film plays in relation to what Freeman discusses closing the loop on his interview comments and montages into different scenes and ends with Ben Affleck‘s closing interview remarks about the destabilization of the Soviet Union and the Nuclear Weapons out there, as well as Nuclear experts available for hire and how that in some ways creates a more dangerous situation for people in the world at large then the structured rules of the Cold War situation and the compilation of interviews ends on a pivotal scene relating to Affleck’s previous statement. The interview compilation was included as Bonus Footage when the film released on DVD.
