‘The Troubles’ at the Oscars last night. I’m sure you all know I’m referring to “The Slap” heard around the World. And that I am not referring to Kenneth Branagh winning “Best Screenplay” for Belfast and disappointing some viewers.

It was Oscar worthy last night for Will Smith to slap Chris Rock at the Oscars over a joke directed at his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. I am going to take a deeper dive into the History of the Oscars then originally intended. I was always going to include posts and The Academy Awards History. This is a blog focusing on History and it’s connection to Movies. And these Awards are for the industry I’m discussing.

Deep Dive into the Academy Pool…

With what happened and its unprecedented place in the 94 year History of the show. This issue seems a pertinent one to evaluate how the show reached the point it did in the telecast where Chris Rock was physically assaulted on stage by Will Smith. It happened infront of a Nationally televised audience. Will Smith was still there to receive his Oscar 45 minutes later. The world around us often determines how we behave in it.

The world seems to be having its own version of ‘The Troubles’, and I am going to look at our History to see how we arrived at this historical moment at the Oscars. I will look at how the industries history played its part.

It is necessary at this point to discuss our changing ways with each other and the tolerance we once had historically for each other despite differing opinions. We could take a joke. I will look at the tolerance and civility we seem to be losing through every avenue of existing as a community of our peers. Stay Tuned!
