The interview discusses Capote’s legacy for writing Breakfast at Tiffany’s, which would later be made into the 1961 Audrey Hepburn film of the same name, as well as his most famous work, In Cold Blood, the 1966 non-fiction novel that details the 1959 murders of four members of the Clutter family in the small farming community of Holcomb, Kansas that skyrocketed Capote to international fame as a writer.

In it, a contemporary writer recalls his early days in New York City, when he makes the acquaintance of his remarkable neighbor, Holly Golightly, who is one of Capote's best-known creations. Two ex-convicts, Perry Smith and Richard Hickock, were found guilty of the murders and sentenced to death. They were both executed on April 14, 1965. ![Author Truman Capote stands in the living room of the Clutter ranch house on April 26, 1967, where four members of the Kansas family were murdered in 1959. Capote’s magnum opus “In Cold Blood” was released in 1966, five years after four of its main subjects were murdered. His masterpiece chronicled the quadruple killing of the respected Clutter family from the tiny farming community of Holcomb, Kansas. The true-crime novel forced Capote to leave his luxurious New York City lifestyle behind and live in Kansas to interview townsfolk with help from his childhood friend Harper Lee. The success of the book has made the Clutter Family murder forever engrained in American history. The interview also touches briefly on how this is not the first time Capote’s life has been depicted on screen, mentioning the Academy Award for Best Actor the late Philip Seymour Hoffman recieved for portraying Truman Capote in the 2005 film, Capote, which follows the events during his writing of In Cold Blood, which included meeting the murders before they were sentenced to death. As well as the 2006 film, Infamous, where Toby Jones portrayed Capote this time, and also deals with Capote’s reasearch and writing of In Cold Blood.
