Going Viral is a 2019 one-hour documentary companion to the miniseries starring Julianna Margulies as Col. Nancy Jaax, and featuring Noah Emmerich, James D’Arcy, Liam Cunningham, Topher Grace, Paul James, and Robert Sean Leonard.

It was announced that National Geographic had greenlit a companion documentary film to premiere alongside the series The Hot Zone. The film was executive produced by Betsy Forhan and featured interviews with subjects including Col. Nancy Jaax, Richard Preston, Dr. Nahid Bhadelia, Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, and Dr. Pardis Sabeti. The production company involved with the film was National Geographic Studios. Going Viral: Beyond the Hot Zone won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Science and Technology Documentary in 2020.
