Critical Postponement…

Chelsea Handler hosted the 30th Annual Critics Choice Awards on February 7, 2025, the ceremony was both celebratory and featured a number of refrences to the recent Los Angeles wildfires. The ceremony was originally scheduled to take place Jan. 14, but due to the wildfires raging across Los Angeles, it was postponed to Jan. 26 and then pushed again to Feb. 7. Hander started the evening off by tributing those who braved thier way through the fires and saved countless lives and homes. “What we saw and the scope of loss has been almost impossible to imagine,” she said, adding that throughout the evening a QR code onscreen would allow viewers to donate to those affected by the fires, in keeping with the Grammys and other awards shows using the star-studded gatherings in part to raise money for relief efforts.

Handler moved on to her monologue as the night’s host and highlighted some of this year’s nominees, which included Wicked and stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana GrandeBabygirl and star Nicole Kidman and Anora and star Mikey Madison. The Critics Choice Awards also awarded the best in television for the year.

The critical winners of the ceremony were Anora taking home Best Picture, while front runner films of the season Emilia Pérez, Wicked and The Substance all took home 3 awards each. With film stars Adrian Brody, Demi Moore, Zoe Saldaña, and Kieran Culkin taking home the top film-acting awards. On the Television side of the awards, Michael Urie, Hannah Einbinder, and Hiroyuki Sanada won top TV-acting awards. Hacks, Shōgun and Baby Reindeer won the best series awards.
