Las Vegas is probably best known for my favorite thing – last minute elopements.

Ronnie and Sam had planned their entire Colorado wedding to be cool as heck, but after COVID-19 just refused to let up, they had to make alternate plans. They had one thing set in stone though – the date.

July 17, 2020, marked ten years together for them. TEN YEARS. Ten years ago, I was in high school, making sure my parents knew that my Scene look wasn’t just a phase (#emo4evr). I cannot imagine meeting my soulmate at that age. But these two did, and they finally said yes to forever.

Ronnie contacted me as soon as she knew their dream Colorado wedding wouldn’t happen, so we made the most of their Las Vegas elopement! I recommended a chapel, created their flowers, and we were off to get married!! She originally told me they wanted an intimate elopement with just the two of them, but y’all know how friends are, so a few of their closest people tagged along, and we all teared up as they said their “I do’s.”

Glory (1989) – While primarily focusing on the American Civil War, this masterpiece highlights the 54th Massachusetts Infantry, a regiment composed of freed and escaped Black men fighting for the Union. Free State of Jones (2016): The story of Newton Knight, a Mississippi farmer who led a rebellion of poor white farmers and runaway slaves against the Confederacy. The Color Purple (1985) - While focusing heavily on the early 20th-century American South, the narrative is deeply rooted in the generational trauma and resilience tracing back to the post-emancipation and slavery eras. Lincoln (2012) – Directed by Steven Spielberg, this film portrays the final months in the life of Abraham Lincoln and his political maneuvers to pass the Thirteenth Amendment, which officially abolished slavery in the United States
